Product Description
- The core function of a deaerator is to remove oxygen and non-condensable gases from fluids (primarily water). Therefore, its application scenarios are highly focused on industrial fields that require "preventing equipment corrosion", "ensuring fluid purity" or "improving system efficiency", covering multiple industries such as electric power, chemical engineering, water treatment, and food & pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Operating conditions: Atmospheric pressure (slightly higher than atmospheric pressure, 0.105~0.12MPa) + high temperature (104~105ºC, near the boiling point of water). Deaeration is achieved through "heating + enhanced gas-liquid contact", with the process as follows:
Step 1: Feedwater Pretreatment - Uniform Water Distribution
The water to be deaerated (e.g., boiler feedwater, circulating water) enters the "water distribution device" (mostly multi-hole nozzles or trays) at the top of the deaerator through the water inlet pipe, and is dispersed into "fine water droplets" or "water films".→ Purpose: Increase the contact area between water and heating steam/air, creating conditions for subsequent oxygen release (the larger the contact area, the higher the deaeration efficiency).
Step 2: Core Deaeration - Heating + Gas-Liquid Exchange
Heating: "Heating steam" (usually from boiler drainage or a dedicated steam source) is introduced into the bottom of the deaerator. The steam flows upward and comes into countercurrent contact with the water droplets/water films falling from the top, heating the water to 104~105ºC (under atmospheric pressure, the boiling point of water is about 100ºC; the slightly higher temperature ensures "supersaturation" to force more complete oxygen release).
Gas-Liquid Exchange: As the water temperature rises, the solubility of dissolved oxygen and non-condensable gases in the water drops sharply, and they escape from the water in the form of "tiny bubbles" and flow upward. At the same time, the steam condenses into water when cooled, which is added to the water to be deaerated, further reducing the gas concentration in the water.→ Key component: The "packing layer" inside the deaerator (e.g., corrugated packing, ceramic rings), which can further break up water droplets, extend the gas-liquid contact time, and enable more thorough oxygen release (the efficiency of ordinary atmospheric deaerators can reach over 99%).
Step 3: Gas Discharge - Removal of Non-Condensable Gases
The escaped non-condensable gases (such as oxygen and nitrogen), together with a small amount of uncondensed steam, accumulate at the top of the deaerator and are continuously discharged through an "exhaust valve" (usually an automatic control valve).→ Note: The exhaust volume must be controlled (too much will waste steam; too little will cause gas retention and incomplete deaeration). Most equipment is equipped with a "micro-exhaust valve" to achieve precise exhaust.
Step 4: Output - Storage and Conveyance of Low-Oxygen Water
The deaerated water (oxygen content ≤ 0.05mg/L) falls into the "water tank" at the bottom of the deaerator (called a "deaerator water tank"), and then is pressurized by a feedwater pump and conveyed to downstream equipment (e.g., boilers, heat exchangers).→ Function of the water tank: It not only stores water but also allows the water to stay in the tank for a short time to further release residual tiny bubbles. Meanwhile, it stabilizes the water temperature and water level to avoid fluctuations in downstream water supply.
Operating conditions: Negative pressure (vacuum degree of -0.08~-0.095MPa) + low temperature (40~60ºC). Its core principle is "reducing pressure to lower oxygen solubility", which requires no high-temperature heating. It is suitable for temperature-sensitive fluids (such as food raw material water and pharmaceutical injection water). The differences in its working process are as follows:
Key Difference 1: Creation of a Vacuum Environment
The main body of the deaerator is connected to a "vacuum pump" (e.g., water ring vacuum pump, Roots vacuum pump). The vacuum pump continuously extracts the internal gas to maintain a negative pressure environment. According to Henry's Law, the partial pressure of oxygen is extremely low under low pressure-even when the water temperature is only 40~60ºC, the oxygen content can be reduced to below 0.05mg/L. This avoids the destruction of heat-sensitive components in the fluid (such as vitamins in fruit juice and active ingredients in pharmaceuticals) by high temperatures.
Key Difference 2: Low Heating Requirement
It does not require a large amount of high-temperature steam. Only a small amount of "preheating steam" or "hot water" is needed to raise the water temperature to 40~60ºC (if the temperature of the raw water already meets the standard, it can enter directly). Its energy consumption is 30%~50% lower than that of atmospheric deaerators, and it is more environmentally friendly.
Application Scenario Adaptation
Due to its low-temperature characteristic, it is widely used in the food (beverages, dairy products) and pharmaceutical (injection water) industries to prevent high temperatures from affecting product quality.
Key Difference 1: Enhanced Deaeration under High Pressure and Temperature
Under high pressure, the boiling point of water increases (e.g., at 0.5MPa, the boiling point of water is approximately 151ºC). The higher temperature further reduces the solubility of oxygen (at 180ºC, the oxygen content in water is almost zero), resulting in higher deaeration efficiency (up to 99.5% or more), which can meet the requirement of "ultra-low oxygen content" (≤0.01mg/L) for high-pressure boilers.
Key Difference 2: Pressure Matching with Downstream Systems
The deaerated water directly enters the high-pressure boiler. The operating pressure of the pressure deaerator is closer to the feedwater pressure of the boiler, which can reduce the "pressure-rising load" of the feedwater pump (no need to raise pressure from atmospheric pressure to high pressure), lower the energy consumption of the pump, and avoid "cavitation" (a common cause of pump failure) when low-pressure water enters the high-pressure system.
Application Scenario Adaptation
It is used in large thermal power plants and high-pressure chemical reaction systems, requiring stable low-oxygen feedwater for high-pressure equipment.
For boilers in the power industry: Oxygen corrodes core components like boiler water walls and economizers, forming "pitting corrosion" and "ulcerative corrosion". In severe cases, it can thin the pipe walls, cause leaks, and even trigger safety accidents such as boiler explosions.
For reactors/pipelines in the chemical industry: Corrosion damages the sealing performance of equipment, which may lead to raw material leakage and product contamination. At the same time, it shortens the equipment replacement cycle and increases production costs.
By means of physical methods (e.g., heating, vacuum) or auxiliary chemical methods, deaerators reduce the oxygen content in water to below 0.05mg/L (as required by industrial standards), fundamentally blocking the corrosion reaction.
In thermal systems such as power generation and heating, oxygen and non-condensable gases in water severely affect heat exchange efficiency:
Non-condensable gases (e.g., carbon dioxide) form a "gas film" on the heat-receiving surfaces of heat exchangers and boilers. The thermal conductivity of this gas film is much lower than that of metal (only 1/100 to 1/1000 of metal), which is equivalent to adding a "heat insulation layer" to the heat-receiving surfaces.
This prevents the heat generated by fuel combustion from being efficiently transferred to the water. To reach the target temperature (e.g., the steam temperature of a boiler), more fuel must be consumed, directly increasing energy consumption (usually by 5% to 15%).
After deaerators remove these gases, the heat-receiving surfaces can come into direct contact with water, ensuring maximum heat exchange efficiency and indirectly reducing the enterprise's energy costs.
Oxygen dissolved in water accelerates the reaction between calcium/magnesium ions and carbonate ions, promoting the formation of scale (mainly calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate):
When scale adheres to the inner walls of boilers and heat exchanger pipes, it not only further reduces thermal efficiency (as mentioned earlier) but also causes uneven heat distribution on the pipe walls. Local overheating may occur, leading to "bulging" and "deformation" of the pipes.
Meanwhile, scale is difficult to remove. Enterprises have to shut down equipment regularly to clean it with chemical descaling agents or high-pressure water, which increases maintenance costs and losses caused by production downtime.
By removing oxygen, deaerators slow down the rate of scale formation, reduce the frequency of maintenance, and extend the continuous operation time of equipment.
